WHAT is the Teacher’s Assistant (TA) Fund?

The Teacher’s Assistant Fund is a funding source to hire teaching aides for K - 3rd Grades. Having Teacher’s Assistants (TAs) in the early grade classrooms allows our head teachers to focus on teaching, thereby giving our children the best possible education. Using only parent contributions, our goal is to fund a minimum of two TAs per grade K-3rd.

WHY do we need to pay for Teacher’s Assistants?

In New York City, the Department of Education pays for teachers, one per classroom except in CTT classes, where two head teachers work as a team. The Dept of Education DOES NOT pay for Teacher’s Assistants. Teacher’s Assistants are specially trained to provide support to teachers and work with students.

HOW MUCH does it cost to have Teacher’s Assistants?

The cost to have a Teacher’s Assistant in your child’s classroom for one school year is approximately $25,000.

HOW MUCH should I contribute?

We invite each family to support this important initiative and contribute as much as you can. The suggested contribution is $1,500 per child, but contributions of all sizes are welcome. All contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Since Teacher’s Assistants must be hired in advance, ALL contributions to the TA fund must be received by October 7, 2019 and cannot be paid in installments.

SHOULD K – 3rd grade parents support both the TA Fund and Annual Fund?

YES! Donations to the TA Fund go directly to the salaries of the Teacher’s Assistant. In contrast, the Annual Fund enables the PTA to supplement the school’s limited resources in order to keep athletics, music, science, culture, and the arts in our beloved school.

HOW can I make my contribution?

Complete this contribution form and return this form to the PTA office. Checks, money order and credit cards are preferred method of payment. Online donations here:

CAN I get a corporate match from my employer?

If your employer offers a gift-matching program, you can double the impact of your contribution by requesting a corporate match. We will be happy to fill out any form required. Please note that all corporate matches will be applied to the Annual Fund, due to certain mandates by some employers, as well as the timing such payments are received. We need to raise funds for TAs at the beginning of year, to ensure the TAs are hired on a timely manner.

What if I have questions?
