SPECIAL GUEST- Assistant Principal Grace How
14 years experience- corporate world, advertising and education.
Background with students with disabilities
Mantra: It takes time for change to happen, some days are smooth and some days are hard. We want to make sure we are nurturing the whole child.
Principal Cindy narrated a personal story about preschool age daughter. She was having problems with a classmate and how Cindy discussed how she resolved it. Things happen between kids. Conflicts arise. That’s why Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) is critical. It's all about relationships: how to navigate our relationships and to handle conflict. Principal Cindy wants to encourage parents to have conversations and to help at home.
Since last year PS33 implemented a SEL curriculum that is now embedded in our leaning.
On October 25 PS33 is hosting the first SEL family event of the school year from 3-4 PM. Principal Cindy will be sending a letter to invite parents and kids to this event to learn about kindness.
Good things happening: Starting October there will be a series of enrichment starting: Salvadori, New Program for 4th grade, Cooking lab 1-5 and Chess enrichments for grade 4 and 5.
Today is the first day for learn with your child. There will be a feedback form, please fill it out.
Opening ceremony for playground is next Wednesday Oct 10. It looks great! The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 11:30 am.
Having the playground open will change arrival and dismissal procedures- it will be smoother now. – More info to come soon.
Q: Will recess be longer now? C: Yes, technically, still 50 min period but since the children will no longer be walking to Chelsea field, recess time will be longer- more time to play.
FUNDRAISING REPORT (Lisa Frank, and Madeline Lloyd)
55% to enrichments
32% others- such as wellness lunch
13% recess coches
If you haven’t please consider giving to the Annual Fund. Whatever you can give! We need 100% participation.
Participation Matters! When we apply for grants they want to know how much participation we have- Participation makes it easier for our school to get the grants. So it does not matter how much you give but that you give!
Teacher Assistant Fund-
Goal is to raise 200K to maintain two TAs per grade from K-3.
TAs will be there during learn with your child for you to meet them.
The PTA is supporting the TA fund 100%, so when the money runs out the TAs have to go.
TAs are important and benefit the children. Please make sure you donate to the TA Fund.
